There is unspeakable comfort — the sort of comfort that energizes, be it said, not enervates — in knowing that God is constantly taking knowledge of me in love and watching over me for my good. There is tremendous relief in knowing that his love to me is utterly realistic, based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst about me, so that no discovery now can disillusion him about me, in the way I am so often disillusioned about myself, and quench his determination to bless me. J I Packer

“it is well with my soul” is an amazing hymn. Even more amazing when you hear the story behind it. After Horatio Spafford was financaly ruined by a fire he sent his family ahead of him from America to England. On the way the ship sank and his four dauters drowned. His wife survived and wired back the message “Survived alone”. On his way to be united with her, he sailed past the spot where the ship had sank and penned these words.

When peace like a river attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
What ever my lot you have taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul

Though the devil will ruin, though trials may come
Let this blessed assurance control
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate
And He shed His own blood for my soul

“Song of Songs isn’t mainly about Jesus & the church. It’s about sex & marriage. But then, sex & marriage is mainly about Jesus & the church”. Andrew WIlson
