In pursuing God’s gifts, one must not look to be sustained mainly by the results, or even the thought of them. If they take a while to come then we will get discouraged, worn out and will look for strength from other places. If results do come, then there is the danger we put down roots too deeply in them and get enslaved. Results can lead away from God as well as to him.
Our satisfaction must, therefore, always be in God and in doing what he has told us to do. If he has said pursue miracles, then all the satisfaction and strength we need is in the pursuing not the getting. Results are in his hands.
I long to see God’s kingdom come in healing power and for people to get wonderfully well, but there is something so incredibly enjoyable and satisfying and life giving about simply doing what God has called you to do. Like pray for the sick.
